In the summer of 2023, I had the joy of travelling with some of my family to Italy for ten days! We travelled to Rome first, and then Florence, and finally the lakes region: Lake Cuomo specifically. It was so much fun, and I would recommend traveling there to anyone who has the chance. This short blog post is going to focus on our time in Rome!

Rome is full of history and culture, both new and old. A travel website for Rome states that “Modern Rome presents an eclectic mix of the traditional and the contemporary.” Rome is a great place to visit old architecture and landmarks such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. |

There is really history everywhere you look in Rome. One of the most memorable places I visited with my family was Vatican City. If you get the chance to travel to Rome, definitely make it a priority to go and visit there. Vatican City is the “smallest fully independent nation-state.” So cool!
One of the borders of Vatican City is St. Peter's Basilica, which is the most beautiful chuch I have ever seen in my life. The exterior and dome are large and imposing but stunning, and the artwork inside is intricate and beautiful. I could have spent hours in there looking at all of the art.

Underneath the basilica is the Necropolis which is basically a bunch of ancient Greek and Roman tombs. It is spooky but super cool that they have been there for thousands of years. It is so rich in history.
The Vatican City Museum is also a must. It is extremely busy, so you need to get your tickets ahead of time,
but it includes things like the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michaelangelo.
